The Bering Academy Faculty
The Bering Academy Faculty hail from a diverse set of backgrounds and bring a multitude of talents, interests, and teaching styles to the Academy.

Alan Richard
Dr. Richard is a founding member of Bering Academy. He is also a social scientist and grantwriter for social services projects. His work has appeared in the Encyclopedia of Postmodernism, the Journal of Cultural and Religious Theory, and Psychological Inquiry.

Barbara O'Keefe
A founding member of the Bering Academy faculty, Barbara was the co-author and co-teacher of our inaugural course: "The Roots of Terrorism." Her work on innovative methods of pedagogy via group processes, drama, and other methods of grounding has formed one of the hallmarks of Bering Academy courses.
Emmanuel Malabanan
Emmanuel Malabanan is a licensed physical therapist practicing in the state of Texas for the past twenty years. Emmanuel also has a graduate degree in Healthcare Administration. In teaching deep relaxation and meditation classes, Emmanuel draws from his experiences in clinical rehabilitation, fitness instruction and his personal practice of yoga and pilates.
Janet Tateya
An engineer and a lover of science fiction, Janet brings her passion for technology, clear view of reality, and personal depth to the Bering Academy faculty.
Jerry O'Keefe
A seminary graduate, a board member of the Foundation for Contemporary Theology, and long time practicing Psychologist, Jerry brings a blend of diverse teaching methods, deep theological reflection, and pastoral care for the well-being of each student to the courses he co-teaches with his wife Barbra.
Nate Custer
Nate Custer has served as a youth minister for a number of years. He currently works with street kids in the montrose neighborhood. He has been involved and draws deeply from his time spent with the Emergent Village network.
